The Committee for Change has been collecting information from YOU, the members of Local 1040.   The issues driving this movement for change are very clear: contract negotiations, member protections, and Local staff and leadership responsiveness all must be drastically improved.   The silence must be lifted and the Union must once again take center stage in advocating for workers.  Attacks to members in the media and by legislators must be answered swiftly and decisively.

Tom has been an outspoken advocate for workers long before he was a member of CWA Local 1040.  He has testified at various Legislative bodies before, during and after his tenure as a staff representative for Local 1040.  He has written,  co-written or had significant influence in the writing of, bills that are now laws, such as the anti privatization bill, and the restriction of mandatory overtime for hospital workers bill.

Tom recently testified on New Jersey's FY 2011 Budget.  His remarks can be found here:

Additionally, he submitted testimony at the Joint Human Services Committee hearing regarding the closures of developmental centers and psychiatric hospitals.  His remarks will be linked in the coming weeks (as soon as the NJ State Legislature posts them).

Members from the DOC, New Lisbon Developmental Center, Ann Klein Forensic, Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, Greystone Park Psychaitric Hospital, Hunterdon Developmental Center, Madison Center and Briarwood Convelescent Home, Westfield, Monmouth County Board of Health, Montgomery Township School District, Montclair, Midstate Prison, Northern State Prison, Berlin, and Atlantic County know the type of representation Tom delivered when he was their Local representative.  Cases with merit were fought, not settled.  He was never afraid to file Unfair Labor Practice charges on management when indicated.  He was reachable 24 hours a day and usually responded immediatley when a member called.

Even as a Public Employee Retirement System Trustee, Tom has consistently voted to protect the Pension System and the public workers who rely on it now, or will in the future.
That's the kind of leader we need.  And that's the kind of leader Tom is.  We all know what we have now.  Do we really want to continue with mediocrity?
We have a choice.
Vote for Tom Bruno for Local 1040 President
